Sunny Daze: Summer's Morning Coffee Blend

It’s sunny days ahead for us here in North Carolina. The summer has arrived, and Dilworth Coffee, your favorite wholesale Raleigh coffee roaster, has another natural coffee blend to share with you: Sunny Daze.

What Is Sunny Daze Coffee?

This blend was designed to be a morning blend. The first thing you think about during those few precious morning seconds. The first taste you crave as your eyes are waking and your curtains are letting some light peak through. A delightfully bright and sweet cup of coffee that’s meant for easy drinking, taste bud dazzling, and face smiling.

What's in the Sunny Daze Blend?

Sunny Daze is a blend of African coffees and Latin coffees, typically Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania Peaberry, and Honduras, depending on what we have readily available. At the moment it’s Tanzania Peaberry, Uganda and Honduras, so let’s chat about these three coffees and show you what they’re all about!

Tanzania Peaberry: Bright, Sweet, and Sustainable

Tanzania peaberry coffee is a unique and prized coffee variety known for its distinctively small, round beans. Unlike regular coffee beans, which consist of two flat-sided halves, peaberry beans are single, rounded beans that develop when only one seed, rather than two, forms inside the coffee cherry. We roast it to a light profile to accentuate its rich, chocolatey flavor and sweet apricot and lemon aftertaste.

Our Tanzania Peaberry Nitin Estate is imported through the InterContinental Coffee, one of our longest-spanning partners in the coffee business. They have been connecting us with this coffee for the past five years. The historic Nitin Estate is in the Arusha region on the western slopes of Mount Oldeani, an inactive volcano in northern Tanzania. The farm has been producing coffee for nearly 60 years and is Rain Forest Alliance certified. The owners have dedicated land as natural corridors to allow wildlife to pass between the Ngorongoro Crater wildlife preserve on one side of the farm to areas of their natural habitat on the other side. It's common to hear elephants and other big game as they pass by. This is a high-altitude farm, ranging between 5,000 and 6,000 feet in altitude. They specialize in washed coffees which are dried in the abundant sunshine on traditional African raised beds.

Ugandan Coffee: Smooth Chocolate, Silky Body

The quality can range from pronounced fruitiness to a medium acidity and nice body. Lots of coffee from Mt. Elgon typically has a strong citrus flavor and medium bodies. In the past, because of these complications, Ugandan coffee had a reputation to fade in flavor and aroma over time. Improper drying and washing techniques produced coffees that didn’t last and were only useful to blend with other coffees. Our Uganda, from near Mt. Elgon, is roasted to highlight its acidity and silky body. It’s delightfully balanced in that way. Couple that with a smooth chocolate base, you’ve got a coffee that’s pleasant and interesting to drink that stands up by itself and blends well with other coffees. When Ugandan coffee is good, it’s very good.

Honduras: Balanced Flavor from the Mountains

Honduran coffee offers a delightful and distinct flavor profile that captures the essence of Central American coffee culture. Grown in the mountainous regions of Honduras, these coffee beans benefit from the country's rich soil, high altitude, and ideal climate, resulting in a cup of coffee that is smooth, balanced, and full-bodied.
