Why We Created an Affordable Espresso Blend

Uncertainty around coffee prices, tariff agreements, and procurement of quality green coffee, has given Dilworth the opportunity to create a new “budget” espresso blend for coffee shops who want quality coffee, at a certain roast profile, at a lower cost. It’s called Foundry Espresso. It’s inspired by the hum of old espresso machines and brick-walled cafes, this blend is all backbone and balance. Full-bodied with Dutch cocoa and notes of roasted nuts, it’s built to cut through milk–and the morning fog.

Built to Perform: In the Hopper or on the Drip Bar

Foundry Espresso, naturally, was designed to be brewed as an espresso. When drunk on its own, it has a thick dark caramel crema, a smooth dark chocolate richness, and a profound nuttiness that makes it oh-so drinkable. It starts with a little bit of brightness in the front of your mouth and ends with a decadent mouth feel. When some well steamed milk is added, this coffee tastes like melted milk chocolate. Super delicious.

Foundry could also be brewed as drip coffee! In a pinch Foundry could replace your dark roasted house brew on your menu. Expect a big hit of roasted cocoa, and some bold nuttiness along with it.

San Remo vs. Foundry—Which Blend Is Right for You?

One of our most popular espresso blends around these parts is our Organic San Remo Espresso. Organic coffees are becoming harder to acquire reliably for the long term, and therefore our prices for organic coffees have risen. To combat this, we designed a blend that imitates Organic San Remo with similar origins, and a very similar roast profile.

Foundry Espresso is not made with organic beans, which makes it a very sustainable option for coffee shops who want a super high-quality roast-y chocolate espresso, at an affordable price.
