Morehead Blend Coffee

Oh! wonderful Carolina! Obviously, us Raleigh-ites are so accustomed to seeing green and leafy trees (Oak City!) that we may forget our beautiful state has an entire salty coastline where North Carolinians live and flourish. One of these iconic coastal towns that this month’s coffee, Morehead Blend, is named after is the stunning coast of North Carolina. More specifically, the name is a reference to Tryon Palace in New Bern, NC, which used to be the capital in the old days. This blend is inspired by our great state and is meant to show how much diversity North Carolina has to offer.

From Tryon Palace to Morehead City: A Journey Through NC History

North Carolina made New Bern its first capital in 1765, with Tryon Palace as the governor’s house. The King appointed ‘royal’ governors of the new colony, and Royal Governor William Tryon built what would become Tryon Palace. The palace burnt in a fire at one point but was faithfully reconstructed later.

John Motley Morehead was the 29th Governor of our State of North Carolina. While Morehead City proper was only incorporated on February 20, 1861, the layout of the city was being planned as early as 1714. Prospector John Shackelford purchased over a thousand acres of land in and amongst present day Carteret County and began building an early settlement. Bridges Arendell Jr., the first mayor of Morehead City, grew the population and economy through the port, Pier 1. After the railroad was constructed to Shepards Point in 1857, Morehead continued to expand steadily up until the Civil War.

Morehead Blend: A Cup of Sweet Southern Charm

But what does it taste like? A delicious cup of our Morehead Blend tastes of roasted and toasted nuts, and creamy caramel. This blend is generally a combination of South American coffees. Typically, one of them is a dark roast, and one of them a light roast. This combination gives us two different profiles that blend seamlessly when brewed into your cup. These coffees change depending on the crop and the year and such. We choose coffees for the cup quality and tasting profile, not necessarily for their origin only. We want this blend to be easy sipping, nutty, toasty, and have a nice rich sugary sweetness.

Let the Nutty Caramel Take You Away—Morehead Blend Awaits

The new year is a time of change. A time of growth. A time of renewal. A perfect time for you to try a new coffee. We implore you to try our Morehead Blend coffee. Let the nutty caramel take you to places you’ve never been. Keep sippin’!
